An intriguing portrait of the life and works of Bob Marley whose charisma and powerful music have set Jamaican culture in the international spotlight. The documentary explores the political situation and the historical events that formed his artistic personality in his first years in Jamaica. The documentary also shows the tense political situation in the Caribbeans that influenced political awareness and stance in Jamaica; the Rastafari movement and its historical and spiritual ties to the motherland.

The documentary follows the evolution of Marley's music, his struggle to break into the music business and his career on the Island Records label when he developed his distinctive reggae style that has echoed all over the world. Sequences, some of which are shown for the first time, include shots in his Jamaican home, his first studio recording, some recently found interviews and live concerts.
